Overview

The 2021 annual report for YWCA tackled the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic with honesty and optimism. Rather than shy away from the difficulties faced, the client embraced a forward-looking approach that highlighted resilience and growth.

Transform a challenging year into a compelling visual and narrative experience that highlights courage, uncovers opportunity, and communicates lasting impact.

Approach:
Inspired by YWCA’s positive outlook, I transformed the word COVID—initially a negative association—into an empowering acronym that structured the report’s key sections:

  • Courage: Overcoming challenges

  • Opportunity: Launching new programs

  • Vision: Strategic planning and future goals

  • Impact: Community thriving and successes

  • Dedication: Staying connected through adversity

This approach created a strong narrative thread that guided readers through the report with clarity and purpose.

Visual Elements

The report features a custom-designed icon set that enhances the readability and engagement of key facts and statistics. A gradient color scheme, symbolizing growth, change, and forward momentum, is applied throughout to create a sense of cohesion and optimism. Informative content is thoughtfully balanced with uplifting visuals, maintaining a hopeful and inspiring tone that reinforces the report’s overarching message.

Outcome

The annual report successfully reframed the pandemic experience as one of resilience and opportunity, resonating with stakeholders and reinforcing YWCA’s commitment to positive community impact.
