Eco Centre Rebrand
Client: The City of Calgary
Department: Mobility
Scope: Video, outdoor signage
Role: Illustrator and Designer
Challenge
Waste & Recycling Services (WRS) was rebranding three of its existing operational facilities into “Eco Centres.” These facilities provide Calgarians with convenient locations to bring materials for disposal, recycling, and reuse. The City wanted to increase awareness and recognition of these centres while highlighting the waste diversion and reuse opportunities they offer.
Approach
My role was to help build the Eco Centre brand and create a promotional campaign that could be used for multiple years. The campaign needed to be fun, informative, and illustrated in style, while also ensuring the Eco Centres became more recognizable and helpful to Calgarians.
I collaborated closely with a copywriter and an animator to develop a 15-second YouTube video. I created the storyboard and art-directed the video to ensure alignment with the brand’s tone. In addition, I designed a library of reusable illustrations to support the campaign across different platforms. I also produced curb signs and handled production details to ensure consistent branding across touchpoints.
Outcome
The campaign delivered a cohesive, engaging identity for the Eco Centres that communicated their purpose clearly and memorably. By combining illustration, storytelling, and multi-platform design, the campaign provided the City with versatile assets to build long-term awareness and reinforce waste diversion and reuse practices among Calgarians.
