Illustration Booth Back Drop

Client: The City of Calgary
Department: Planning & Development Services
Scope:
Custom illustration
Role:
Illustrator

Challenge

The client requested a 10' x 8' booth banner illustration designed to spotlight climate and environmental initiatives. Their goal was to create a visually engaging piece that felt dynamic yet uncluttered, with a clear set of specific requests to guide the design.

Approach

I began with a concept sketch that integrated the client’s requests and strategically introduced wildlife and the Bow River along the bottom. This composition anchored the piece in Calgary’s identity while keeping key elements in the middle and upper areas for maximum visibility.

After presenting the initial sketch, I gathered client feedback, refined the design, and secured approval. From there, I developed the full vector illustration, applied final adjustments, and delivered the completed piece.

To highlight Calgary’s commitment to climate resilience, the illustration was designed as a multi-scene urban landscape showcasing clean energy, sustainable infrastructure, and inclusive mobility. It unified key elements into one cohesive, optimistic visual that also reflected the city’s social diversity, making the message of climate action accessible and engaging.

Outcome

The final vector illustration was approved and successfully delivered. The design clearly represented the client’s climate and environment focus while balancing simplicity and impact. The added Bow River and wildlife made the banner distinct to their department, and the approved artwork was ready for booth use. The finished piece provided the client with an accessible, optimistic, and visually unified representation of Calgary’s climate action initiatives.

“Thank you. Wonderful work.”
